Inspector, OSP (OUTSIDE PLANT)

- This individual is capable of &/or has knowledge of the following:

  • reading and interpreting engineering drawings,
  • providing legal descriptions,
  • thorough understanding of telephone industry standards, plant symbols, and terminology,
  • standard telecommunications measurements, clearances, safety guidelines, and structure requirements (aerial & subsurface).
  • requirements associated with outside plant copper/fiber cable design and construction.
  • Takes responsibility and accountability for project.

Upon completion of each work order inspected, provide to the appropriate departments, all associated supporting documentation and findings. Provide RUS documentation when applicable. Safety and quality issues will be immediately reported to appropriate management upon identification.

 

Resident Engineer, OSP (OUTSIDE PLANT)

- This individual is capable of &/or has knowledge of the following:

  • thorough understanding of telephone industry standards, plant symbols, and terminology,
  • evaluate the status of facilities and recommend viable solutions to resolve new and/or growth requirements,
  • requirements associated with outside plant copper/fiber cable and pair-gain design and construction,
  • experience in the planning and engineering/design of cable, pair-gain, and OSP transport network elements,
  • prepare field notes, customer contacts, foreign company contacts, normal permit applications,
  • prepare and submit total work order (WO) package to upper management to satisfy new/initial service requests, congestion, expansion and/or rearrangement requirements.

 

Cable Splicer (Copper), OSP Construction

- This individual is capable of &/or has knowledge of the following:

  • thorough understanding of telephone industry standards, plant symbols, and terminology as they relate to the copper cable network,
  • reading and interpreting engineering drawings,
  • tagging of cable pairs,
  • monitoring, and repairing leaks in aerial and underground air pressure systems:
    • replacing Perform type splice cases,
    • replacing end plates, “F” valves, saddles,
    • replacing transducers,
    • repairing air pipe
    • placing buffering tanks
    • use of standard tools and test equipment (gas detectors, generators,manhole package)
  • copper cable splicing:
    • permanent connecting of individual copper wires of a cable pair to those of another cable pair (includes straight and branch splices),
    • cable throws (includes monitoring, testing, and labeling as required), associated with POTS as well as special circuits lines,
    • placement of all normal and applicable units (e.g. splice cases, load coils, etc.) associated with copper cable,
    • comply with local or standard cut control procedures.

 

Cable Splicer (Fiber), OSP Construction

- This individual is capable of &/or has knowledge of the following:

  • thorough understanding of telephone industry standards, plant symbols, and terminology as they relate to the fiber cable network,
  • reading and interpreting engineering drawings,
  • labeling of cable pairs,
  • use of standard fiber tools and test equipment,
  • fiber cable splicing:
    • permanent connection of fiber pigtails to a fiber of a cable or splicing a
    • fiber of one cable to a fiber of another cable (mechanical or fusion) and associated testing,
    • placement of all normal and applicable units (e.g. splice cases, etc.) associated with fiber cable,
    • sheath preparation, and labeling as required. Testing individual splices toensure they meet minimum loss requirements. It also involves end-to-end testing in both directions and documentation of the results.

 

Cable Tester (Fiber), COEI Construction

- This individual is capable of &/or has knowledge of the following:

  • thorough understanding of telephone industry standards, plant symbols, and terminology as they relate to the fiber cable network,
  • reading and interpreting engineering drawings,
  • fiber testing (degradation, link loss, attenuation, dispersion, Optical Return Loss)
    • use of standard tools and test equipment (OTDR, PMD/CD module, ORL tester)
  • may require permanent connection or re-connection of fiber pigtails,
  • use of standard fiber tools and test equipment,
  • end-to-end testing in both directions and documentation of the results.

 

Equipment Installer (Apprentice), COEI Construction

- This individual is capable of &/or has knowledge of the following:

  • reading and interpreting switching and transmission engineering work-orders,
  • assistances in the installation, rearrangement, modification, and removal of central office equipment and associated wiring,
  • erects ironwork and installs cable (runs, connects, dresses, and tests),
  • independently assembles drawings and job applications,
  • receives and accounts for equipment/material necessary to do the job,
  • accounts for equipment received and removed,
  • maintains necessary reports and records,
  • Insures quality standards are maintained,
  • adheres to safety and security procedures

 

Equipment Installer (Advanced), COEI Construction

-This individual is capable of &/ or has knowledge of the following:

  • reading and interpreting switching and transmission engineering work-orders,
  • coordinates installation workloads,
  • assigns jobs and directs and assists equipment installer and apprentice installers with installation of equipment,
  • installs, tests, and turns up electronic and/or electromechanical switching equipment, common control electronics, switching network, input and output devices, carrier, and microwave equipment in central offices or customer premise,
  • utilizes logic drawings, computer listings, floor plans, wiring diagrams,
  • utilizes hand tools, and special test sets, test load simulators, required to turn-up and test equipment,
  • performs work with minimal supervision.
  • observes the quality and quantity of work performed,
  • takes responsibility and accountability for project.

 

Equipment Specialist (Support), COEI Construction

- This individual is capable of &/or has knowledge of the following:

  • reading and interpreting switching and transmission engineering work-orders,
  • plans and executes comprehensive test procedures to provide for the complete testing of hardware and software elements of common control switching and transmission systems,
  • provides technical support and guidance for the analysis and resolution of complex equipment faults,
  • has a very high level of technical competence in electronics (hardware and software),
  • technical competence in the installation/testing of digital (switching and transmission) equipment,
  • has a strong background in digital systems,
  • controls the technical activities and the order of equipment testing,
  • coordinates work assignments and operational procedures of other installers.
  • directs the proper course of action to ensure a rapid resolution of any encountered problems,
  • analyzes and verifies network production documentation,
  • executes thorough and comprehensive testing of equipment to ensure excellence in system performance prior to cutover.
